“If I can do this, anyone can.”
Have you ever heard this sentence and thought that it was just so vague that it didn’t really mean anything?
You see others doing what your heart is aching to do. You see others thriving and you wonder why that isn’t you. Why can’t you be like that? Why are you not listening to yourself?
Until the day you do something that is so out of your comfort zone and out of your ordinary that you surprise yourself by how adaptable and resilient you really are.
Jumping into an adventure head first and alone will bring out sides of you that you never thought you had. Here I am halfway across the world and I am thinking of everything that I have done in the past year and the personal journey it took to get here. Some steps were small but very significant, some others were so difficult to take that some days I thought I couldn’t take a single step more.
But I did. And I did again.
And here I am living a dream I thought inaccessible for someone like me. When we want something bad enough and when our heart is aching, we manage to do things that we think are only meant for others. Others who are stronger than us, wealthier than us, smarter than us, funnier than us. There will always be somebody more.
But you are enough of everything you need to be to follow your own dreams.
You discover that if you came through adversities a little scathed but intact, you will be ok. You know that others have been where you are now and more will be taking a similar path sometime in their lifetime, they are and will be ok.
I don’t have special powers and I don’t have a lot of money. What I do have is a desire to change my path for a more purposeful one. What I do have is myself and that is enough. I have come a long way, and I have learnt to like myself enough to listen and trust.
Believe me when I say, if I can do this, so can you.
-Fearlessly forward bound.
